Eurovision Top 250 – Congratulations, Željko Joksimović!

, posted by Daniel Mourinho

After an exciting countdown which had started in the morning at 11:00 CET, we finally had a winner last night just before midnight. Serbia’s entry from the  2004 Eurovision Song Contest, Lane Moje, received  the most votes in this year’s edition of the ‘Eurovision Top 250’, congratulations to Željko Joksimović. At 23:40 we finished our broadcast of the radio show with a personal message from Željko.

The 2009 ESC winning song Fairytale by Alexander Rybak came second in the voting, followed by Helena Paparizou’s My Number One, Greek winner of the 2005 contest in Kiev. The most voted song from last year’s Contest in Düsseldorf is the Swedish entry Popular by Eric Saade, who had already won the Best Song category at the 2011 ESC Radio Awards. As the highest-placed song from the 1990s decade, Poland’s To Nie Ja!, sung by Edyta Górniak, ranks at #6. The highest-ranking Eurovision entry from the 70’s is ABBA’s Waterloo (ESC winner 1974), placed at #13, and 1987 Irish winner Hold Me Now by Johnny Logan came out the most voted song from the 1980s decade at #32. Belgium’s entry from 2006, Je T’Adore, performed by Kate Ryan and placed here at #81, should be mentioned as the highest placement of a song that never even made it to a Eurovision final. Je T’Adore was eliminated in the 2006 semi-final.

On this occasion, special thanks go to our partner website 12points.tv for organizing the voting, and also to the various Eurovision websites that supported this project. ESC Radio wishes everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012!

French singer Anne Marie David is one of the most respected Eurovision contestants from the 1970s decade. In 1973, David won the Eurovision Song Contest for Luxembourg with the song “Tu Te Reconnaîtras”, written by Claude Morgan & Vline Buggy, and six years later she returned to the contest representing her native France at the 1979 ESC in Jerusalem with “Je Suis L’enfant-soleil”, finishing third behind Israel and Spain. Both her songs have become true ESC classics. Recently, Anne Marie released a new revamped version of her 1973 winning song, aptly named Tu Te Reconnaîtras (Encore Une Fois)”. This new version results from a collaboration with German producer Mave O’Rick who also sings with Anne Marie the German duet version Du Bist Da”. Both tracks are available for download on iTunes and amazon.

If you missed our interview broadcast with Anne Marie David today at 15:00 CET, you can listen to the interview here now:

Playlist updated – new program segment

Dear friends and listeners, we have updated our playlist today, and it’s not quite the ordinary type of update this time. Not only do we present some goodies from the Swiss online selection for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, but, as a new segment of our playlist, we now also include new songs from Eurovision artists, follow-up singles to their ESC entries, album tracks and latest releases, in order to support their music and, at the same time, bring a fresh new flavor to the programme. It’s still “work-in-progress”, we have started the segment with just a few tracks now, but it will be updated constantly whenever we receive new songs. The “purists” among our listeners can rest assured that the regular ESC entries and classics will remain the central part of our playlist.

Tune in to ESC Radio and enjoy the music of the Eurovision Song Contest!
